Mine does the same, if you don't have the fob near your car it will be locked. Try to open trunk when keys aren't around car it will be locked. I think it is a convenience feature. Nov 15, 2018 · Hatchback versions of the car don't have an unlock function for the hatch. The hatch is simply always locked. It is unlocked and opened in the single activity of pressing the rectangular button in back. There is no other unlock or open mechanism for the hatch using the key fob, or door buttons, or within the car. Approach car, unlock using remote, go to boot, press button, it won't open. Open a rear door and press the lock button on the remote. Locks chatter, but won't lock because door is open. Go to boot, press button, it opens. I have no idea why this worked for me. I've done this several times.There is a manual release, it's located behind a square piece of trim on the bottom of the lift gate.
